On July 2, 1942, a baby boy was born to George Lollis, Sr., and Lillie Mae [Carr] Lollis in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. They named him Goerge Lollis, Jr. He was the eighth of ten children born to this union.
George was baptized at an early age and united with New Prospect Baptist Church in the New Prospect Community. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Fellowship Right Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri.
George attended school in Rentiesville, Oklahoma and graduated with the Class of 1960. After graduation, George moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he met and married Earline [Wright] Lollis. Three children were born to this union; Angie, who is deceased, Valerie and George. This marriage was dissolved.
In 1976, he married Linda [Nevels] Lollis. A son, Alan Clemmie Lollis was born to this union.
George worked for several restaurant chains in Kansas City, becoming a manager at both Denny's and later at Sambo's. In 1976, he founded, owned and operated Grandpa's Drive-in.
In 1989, George became employed with the Kansas City, Missouri districts transportation department. Before retiring, he supervised, trained and tested drivers for the Durham school services, as well as work for Penske/K.C.Star.
George, most often referred to as "Uncle Big June" or "Junior" was well loved by many He was a proud, kind and gentle man with a laugh and smile that could brighten even the darkest day. He was always willing to do whatever he could to help his family and friends when needed.
In 2007, following surgery for the removal of a brain tumor, George began experiencing neurological issues that gradually deprived him of his ability to walk without assistance and affecting other motor skills needed to perform basic daily living. This loss of independence would ultimately contribute to his declining health.
In June of 2009, George and his wife, Linda both retired, and moved to Chandler, Arizona. Because his health continued to fail, and in an effort to lend support and facilitate his rehabilitation, George moved back to Rentiesville, Oklahoma, residing with and being cared for by his oldest son, Reverend Samuel L. Cunningham, Sr., Damita and family, his granddaughter, Latitia Hill [LPN] and her husband, Leonard, a very dedicated nephew and niece, Robert and Alice Jones, who all unselfishly assisted in the care of "Grandpa George" and "Uncle Big June" whenever called upon.
During his final months, George prepared himself to go home to be with the Lord, making peace with God and Getting his house in order.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, George departed this life to dwell in Heaven with Christ for eternity. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a step-son, three brothers and a sister.
George is survived by his wife, Linda [Nevels] Lollis, Chandler, Arizona; three sons, Reverend Samuel L. Cunningham, Sr., [Damita], Rentiesville, Oklahoma, George L. Lollis, Kansas City, Missouri and Alan C. Lollis, Dallas, Texas;; two step-sons, Charles Rice, Dallas, Texas and Fredrick Rice, New Jersey; three daughters, Christine Long, Kansas City, Kansas, Valerie Lollis, Kansas City, Missouri and Angie Jones, Kansas City, Kansas; a very special great-granddaughter, Lilly Martin, whom he affectionately called his "Lilly Flower", as he was her "Lollipop"; three sisters, Rosie Jones [Leroy], Elizabeth Byrd [George], Rentiesville, Oklahoma, and Patricia Harris [Earnest], Kansas City, Kansas; three brothers, Danny Lollis[Jean], Muskogee, Oklahoma, James Lollis [Adrienne] and Sherman Lollis [Julie], Rentiesville, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The final hour with Mr. Lollis will be on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mount Olive Star Baptist Church, west of Checotah, Oklahoma. His Son and the Pastor, Reverend Samuel Cunningham, will Officiate. Burial will follow in the Honey Springs Cemetery at Rentiesville, Oklahoma.
