IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George L.
Smith
April 3, 1943 – October 29, 2020
George L. Smith was born April 3, 1943 in Kansas City, MO to Nehemiah and Prince Ella Smith both of whom preceded him in death. He later moved to Haskell, OK where he attended school.
After school, George moved to Tulsa where he worked for the City of Tulsa and later retired from Russell Plumbing. After retirement, George's favorite pastime was "junking". He would get up early every day to begin his route in search of valuables but not before a stop at McDonald's. George and a group of buddies would have breakfast and coffee at McDonald's every morning to get the day started. George was not much of a talker but always had a smile and enjoyed a good story.
George married Minnie Nash on his birthday, April 3, 1985. This union included three bonus adult children James Rice, David Rice and Tammy McQuarters. They were married for 35 years.
George loved being around his family and always looked forward to the holidays when he could spend time with his sisters, nieces, nephews and their families.
In the most recent years, George was faced with health challenges that did not allow him to get out as much as he would have liked but he remained in good spirits and would look forward to the visits and phone calls from family and friends. On October 29, 2020, he surrendered his earthly body and went to be with his heavenly father. He would be re-united with his parents, Nehemiah Smith, Prince Ella Charles, his step -father, Eugene Charles, and his sisters Iretta Smith-Wilson and Jackelyn Smith and brothers Elijah and Millage Smith.
George leaves his wife of 35 years: Minnie, bonus children James, David (Marie), Tammy (Scott) all of Tulsa, OK. His sisters Jeanetta Brown, Tulsa; Loretta Smith and Beverly Smith Weathers and brother Frank Smith, all of Kansas, City, MO. His beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
