Obituary

In 1957 Bobby Jones met and later married Jeweline Brown, and on May 9, 1959, the couple welcomed their 1st baby together, our dad, Gerald Wayne. Jerry, as he was affectionately called by his friends and family, attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated with the McLain Scots Class of 1978.  Daddy was raised at Timothy Missionary Baptist Church and was one of the first ones to be baptized there under the leadership of the late Rev. H. C. Potter.

Daddy grew up with his cousins that were more like brothers, Reggie and Ryder 'PeeWee' Walker, along with his best friends Gerry and Dwayne. Daddy would tell us some great stories about him and his friends and would quickly say that it was "Gerry's fault".

Gerry set our daddy up on a blind date where he met our mother, Wynnetta Tollett. On July 3, 1982 this friendship went a little further. Our dad, with his big heart and coming from a blended family himself, had no problem helping to raise his first daughter, Gloria. She was not meant to be an only child, and was quickly blessed with 2 sisters, Chanetta 'Sista' and LaJuana. Our daddy always provided for us and raised us in church just as he was raised. He was a firm believer in studying the bible, so much so, that he studied to show himself approved in April 1983 by becoming an ordained Deacon under Rev. John C. Gilkey Sr. We made our home in Tulsa where daddy worked at Fomac in Tulsa, and we later moved to Muskogee where daddy was employed with Coburn Optical. Daddy and our mother were great friends, but they decided to dissolve their marriage and co-parent. Our dad then moved back to his hometown and church home.

We know all things work together…  because he would not have met my mother, Sheryl 'Shena', if it didn't work for good.  Shena quickly found out the big heart Gizmo (our nickname for daddy) had by accepting me, Shauntelle 'Shauny', as his 4th daughter when they got married on April 22, 1995. Just as my sisters have mentioned, he continued to provide for our blended family and worked faithfully until retiring from L.E. Rader Institute when the doors closed in September 2011. Gizmo, my mother and sisters have been unified until the very end. My sisters' and I watched and helped my mother take care of daddy when his health began to fail, she became his arms and legs. My dad was grateful, and my sisters and I will forever respect her for being a definition not only as a Christian but a Godly wife.

Our daddy loved spending time with his family, whether it was on the phone with his brother Lester, or hanging with his other brothers, Darryl and Darren, where most of the topics were his girls, his three grandson's and football. Anyone that knows and loves our dad knows that he loves the OU Sooners and his all-time favorite, The Dallas Cowboys. Daddy was very talented in football and basketball, but he enjoyed his gift of singing the most. His voice was well known and heard all over the state of Oklahoma and even recorded with the Voices of Timothy Choir.

Daddy was a strong, God fearing man, and accepted the Will of God. We know he would have loved to stay here on earth, but God knows best and brought him home to be with both his maternal and paternal grandparents, his dad Bobby, and brother Robert.

Our dad leaves to cherish his memories wife, Shena of the home of 23 years, us girls, Gloria, Chanetta and LaJuana (Muskogee) and Shauntelle (Tulsa), our grandma Jeweline, aunts that were like second mothers, Essie 'Doll' White and Naomi Walker and 1 uncle, Henry Brown Sr.  Three brothers to help protect us, Rev. Lester (Diana) Dewberry of Tyler, TX, Darryl (Racheal) and Darren (LaToya) Jones all of Tulsa. Three grandson's, Davian, Dorian and Parker and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory a special niece, Lexie Beckman, and a special cousin, David Hunt; and to tell all the great stories: his best friend Gerry Tarver, and two church families, Gethsemane Baptist Church and Timothy Baptist Church.
