Ms. Geraldine Tease, after 91 years with us, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Febrauary 17, 2016 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On November 3rd, 1924, in Chilesville, a farming community North of Boley, OK, Geraldine Tease was born to a family of modest means but high expectations. Geraldine was the tenth (10th) of thirteen (13) children born to Addie Perryman-Tease and George L. Tease Sr.
Geraldine Tease's childhood life in the George and Addie Perryman-Tease household taught her to be loving of family, respectful and kind to others. As a teenager, Geraldine was baptized and became a member of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church where her parents, siblings and paternal grandparents John and Charlotte-Cunningham-Tease also worshiped.
Geraldine attended Chilesville grade school and Boley high school. While in high school, she met and married Hiawatha Martin who was working in the Boley area for the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), a jobs program during the great depression. This union was blessed with their only child, Eugene O. Martin.
The family later moved to Tulsa where Geraldine and Hiawatha both sought employment. In those early years, employment opportunities were limited for individuals of color. Geraldine spent a number of years working as a clerk in the Claude G. Ramsey Drug store. She later worked as a domestic helper for a number of families in Tulsa. She retired after working more than forty (40) years for the John and Mary Witcher-Athens family.
Geraldine and her cousin Ora Mackey-Burton with whom she lived after she and Hiawatha divorced, became members of the Lutheran Prince of Peace Church in the mid-1950s and both were loyal members until their deaths. At the Lutheran Prince of Peace, Geraldine served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir for fifty (50) plus years. She loved the Lutheran Prince of Peace.
Geraldine's love, caring and generosity touched her family, friends, church members and everyone she met. Her sweet, kind and loving mannerism brought joy to many.
Traveling was a joy for Geraldine. She attended each and every bi-annual Tease Family Reunion to include, 1977, Oklahoma City; 1979, Phoenix, AZ; 1981, Kansas City, MO; 1983, Culver City, CA; 1985, Tulsa, OK; 1987, Mesa, AZ; 1989, Dallas, TX; 1991, Oklahoma City, OK; 1993 Oakland, CA; 1995, St. Louis, MO; 1997, Las Vegas; 1999, New Orleans; 2001, Nashville, TN; 2003, Atlanta, GA; 2005, Dallas, TX; 2007, Las Vegas, NV; 2009, Tulsa, OK; 2011, Houston, TX and her last was 2013, San Diego, CA.
She also traveled to Honolulu, HI five (5) times, to Puerto Rica, Jamaica, Canada and nearly every state in the USA with her son and daughter-in-law.
