It all began on March 25, 1964, when Roy and the late Betty [Bryant] Willis celebrated the birth of a bouncing, baby boy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was named Geron Howard Willis, but everyone knew him by "Ronnie."
Ronnie grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he received his primary education in the Tulsa Public Schools at Raymond S. McClain High School. While in school, he was athletic and played both football as well as basketball.
Later in life, Ronnie moved to Virginia and remained there for about five years. While there, he worked in the Construction Industry as a laborer. He returned to Oklahoma in 1989, where he continued to work in construction.
He loved sports, especially watching football and basketball on television, but he was active in Rodeo. He loved to ride his horse, "Penny."
Although he was a true cowboy, Ronnie loved to hang with his best friend, his Dad. Together, they collected and worked on muscle cars, fixing and restoring them so they could cruise around.
Ronnie was loved by his family and friends and will never be forgotten. After 43 seasons, Geron Howard Willis, with his loving family near his side, "rode the last roundup" to Heaven on Tuesday morning, October 9, 2007 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Willis and his sister, LaTonya James.
He leaves with broken hearts; his children, Sheron L. Armstead, Geron H. Armstead and Jawun R. Armstead; his father, Roy H. Willis; two brothers, Keith L. Wilson and Willard L. Wilson; two sisters, Yolonda F. Rogers and Kim R. Willis; seven grandchildren, Lashonda D. Armstead, Samule A. Wilson, Journey L. Armstead, Nevaeh D. Miles, Geron H. Armstead, Jr., Tysheona L. Lyles, Taylor R. Armstead; his extended family, Deloyce Walker, Barbara Barre and family; along with a caravan of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Final Ride will be on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in Phillipi Baptist Church. Rev. V. R. McFarland, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Beggs Cemetery.
You may visit Ronnie, as he slumbers at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon to 7 PM.
