Gladys was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on March 26, 1927 to the parents of Phillip & Della Johnson. She had two younger sisters, Linda Toles and Jettie Mae Matthews.

She attended Boley Public Schools and only completed the 9th grade.

She met Robert M. Johnson in 1949; they dated for 6 months and were married December 17, 1949. To this union, six children were born (3 daughters and 3 sons). Prior to their marriage, Gladys had two daughters whom Robert accepted as his own.

After marriage, Gladys joined New Hope Baptist Church where her husband was a member. She was a Deaconess, assisted in the Treasury Department, in the Sunday School Department and was over the Christmas distribution. She served faithfully in those areas until her health failed.

She worked as a homemaker for several years after her children left home. She enjoyed shopping, decorating her home and working in the yard. She was a strong-minded woman and had an abundance of love for her children and their families; always assisting whenever and wherever she could. Due to her health, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in December 2015 with one of her daughters.

Gladys answered the call to glory on April 12, 2026. Her parents, husband, 2 sisters, and 2 grandsons preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 5 daughters: Barbara Crawford (Lincoln), and Jackie Jackson of Tulsa, OK, Norma Hayes, and Neice Johnson of Oklahoma City, Carrie Lewis (Stanley), Vallejo, CA; 3 sons: Lorenzo Johnson (Lisa), Richardson, TX, Calvin Johnson (Larnell), and Nathaniel Johnson of Tulsa, OK; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday April 25, 2026 at 11AM at St. John Baptist Church - Boley.

Interment will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery in Boley.

Friends may visit Mrs. Johnson on Friday April 24, 2026 from 11AM - 4PM.
