Obituary

Gladys L. Overstreet was born on August 18, 1944 in Idabel Oklahoma to McKinley and Emma Burch. She was one of thirteen children.

Gladys attended Idabel Public Schools where she finished with honors. She went on to further her education at Langston University where she received her degree in Mathematics Education and a minor in French.

Gladys taught school in the Oklahoma City Public school district before moving to Okmulgee and teaching at the historic Dunbar Jr. High. During this time, she met and married Alfred Overstreet Sr. and to this union four wonderful sons were born.

While living here in Okmulgee she united with the First Baptist Church Central under the leadership of Rev. P.W. Jackson where she worked diligently in many areas of the church.

Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and attending her sorority meetings. She would light up any room with her humor and her passionate words.

Gladys finished her teaching career with the Tulsa Public Schools where she taught for 40 years.

She was proceeded in death by Alfred Overstreet Sr.; followed by Kalvin Fletcher and son, Willard Overstreet; Six sisters, Narvell Case, Girtie Mae Neal, Ruth Abraham, Martha Ann Boone, Clara Escoe, and Joyce Ann; Four brothers, Persey Burch, Luther Burch, MC Burch, and Lance Burch.

On March 27th, 2020 God decided to pick one of his precious flowers to let it blossom up in heaven. She fought the good fight, she ran the race, she kept the faith.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful legacy; one sister, Mary Ann Molson, a brother RC Burch, three sons, Cardell Overstreet of Okmulgee, Patrick Overstreet (Raina) Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Keri Overstreet of Oklahoma City Okla. Four Grandchildren Brionna Carter Tulsa, Domanic Johnson Tulsa, MaKayla Overstreet and Jeremiah Overstreet all of Tulsa, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Her Sacred Farewell will commence on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church-Central with her Pastor, Dr. Preston Jackson, Sr., Presiding.  Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.
