Obituary

Gloria Emily Turner Thompson
"Madea"

Gloria Emily Turner Thompson entered into eternal rest surrounded by family at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 18, 2011 from complications of a stroke. Gloria was 83 years old and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She was affectionately called "Madea" by many of her family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isidore, Sr., parents Joseph Joshua and Leona Drew Turner, sons Isidore Thompson, Jr. and Gregory B. Thompson, Sr. brother Alvin Turner, Sr. brothers in-law: J.C. Thompson, Henry Thompson, James Thomas, sisters in-law: Veronica Thompson and Annie Walton and nephew Brad C. Turner.

Gloria was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse for over 40 years, having worked at Charity Hospital, Sara Mayo Hospital, and St. Margaret's Daughter, all in New Orleans. For numerous years she was a member of the Knights of Peter Clave in New Orleans, and a long time member of National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Service, Inc. (NAPNES), St. David's Catholic Church in New Orleans until 2005. She was also a member of Community Apostolic Church and Love Outreach Community Ministries in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gloria loved good food and socializing, enjoyed going to church with family, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was a feisty soul, one that could make you blush with her many questions. Gloria bore a strong resemblance to the author and poet Maya Angelou. Just like her look-alike, she didn't hold her tongue and "called it as she saw it." Her last celebration was at her church on senior citizens day where she received a wonderful gift and was later taken to dinner by her pastor, along with her fellow senior church members and other friends. In 2007, she was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost in 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Mission Fest.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters: Veronica T. Dillon, Lorrie T. Kirk-Eaglin, Andrea T. Jenkins (Lonnie), and son Joshua Thompson (Delores), sisters: Ester Brown (Roy, Sr.), Leona Thomas, brothers: Joseph Turner (Mary), Willie Turner (Joyce), daughter in-law, Annie Thompson, devoted granddaughter, Iresha Dillon, devoted niece Kim Benson (Danny), and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services for Gloria Thompson, formerly of New Orleans, Lousiana are scheduled for Saturday March 26, 2011 at 11AM Love Outreach Community Ministry located at 6520 N. Utica in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
