My Life Story
Gomilla Stovall, Jr., was born the fifth of fourteen children on March 23, 1944, to Gomilla and Riley (Pettis) Stovall in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.
Gomilla accepted Christ at a young age at Trice Chapel MB Church, where he served in the choir. Gomilla was very active in high school, participating in basketball and baseball, excelling in both as the team captain.
After graduating from Cotton Plant Vocational High School, Gomilla moved to Chicago, where he worked as an Insurance Agent before being drafted. Before leaving for the military, Gomilla married his high school sweetheart, Mable L. (Ivey) Stovall; to this union, three children were born, Tara, TaShuna, and Kevin.
After serving his country, Gomilla returned home with many accommodations and honors and began his career with QuikTrip Corporation in 1968. Gomilla would go on to earn many awards and accolades throughout his career with QuikTrip. Gomilla broke barriers as the first person of color in management and retired after 30 years of service. While working at QuikTrip, he joined Antioch B. Church, where he was a member of the Men's Organization, Audio Visual Ministry, and worked with the athletic department. Gomilla was ordained as a Deacon, October 27, 2007, while a member of Concord Community Baptist Church.
Gomilla enjoyed fishing, golfing, grilling, and coaching AAU basketball. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family; nothing was
more important to him than family. Gomilla was preceded in death by his parents, Gomilla and Riley Stovall, six sisters, and one brother.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
His beloved wife, Mable L. Stovall of the home; two daughters, Tara Lawrence of Romeville, Illinois, and TaShuna (Tracey) Nixon of Bolingbrook, Illinois; one son, Kevin (Deborah) Stovall of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Jordawn (Brandon) Stevens of Westmont, Illinois, Demareo Nixon, and Desmond Nixon, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Prentiss Nixon, and Madisen Nixon, both of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Adrian Jackson, Nikkia Jackson, and Kameron Stovall, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Joyce) Stovall of Little Rock, Arkansas, Keith Stovall of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and Grover Stovall of Albion, Michigan; four sisters, Mary (Steven) Wright of Charlottesville, Virginia, Irene Stovall of Chicago, Illinois, and Beleivia Stovall, and Vickey Stovall, both of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; one aunt, Modell Cheatham of Detroit, Michigan; six brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins,
nieces, nephews, and friends.
