Obituary

On February 17, 1987, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, God blessed Roy and Lillian Smith with their only son. They named him Gregory Elliott Smith. He was the fourth child born to this union.

Gregory and his family moved to Boynton, Oklahoma, where he grew up and attended Boynton-Moton School until the 8th grade. Gregory later moved to Muskogee, where he attended Muskogee High School.

Gregory worked at Arby's Restaurant for a short period of time, but his passion was construction. He worked several constructio njobs with his father. He learned everything he needed to know, from painting to plumbing, remodeling or anything to do with construction, he knew.

Gregory was best described as a peacemaker. Standing at 6"4", his size was intimidating, but his heart was bigger than life. He always helped in anyway that he could, putting everyone first before himself. He was a selfless person, and anyone who knew him, knew he was a loveable person. His silly personality and big, bold smile would light up a room.

Gregory met Angelia Warren and was blessed with two boys, naming them Demontre and Trevon Smith. He later met Jessica McGuire and united with her family. He was a step-father to Elijah and Emoni. Although he wasn't present, not a day went by without hearing from "Daddy." The kids looked forward to hearing from him.

Gregory Elliott Smith, after 29 years, transitioned from life to everlasting on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, great-grandparents, a brother-in-law and great-nephew.

Gregory leaves to lament his passing; his father, Roy l. Smith, Haskell, Oklahoma; his sons, Demontre and Trevon Smith, both of Muskogee; his sisters, Mattie Miller, Taft, Angelia Miller, Muskogee, Cynthia [Miguel] Whitfield, Muskogee; four nieces; eleven nephews; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; and a caravan of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.

The Final Hour with Mr. Smith will commence on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in the New Life Ministries of Taft.

Burial will follow in the Doyle Cemetery at Yahola, Oklahoma.

You may visit Mr. Smith on Friday from 12 Noon until 7:00 PM at the funeral home in Muskogee.
