In Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 9, 1962, a beautiful, baby girl was born to Lorenzo and Jean Davis. She was named Gwendolyn Frances. She was the fourth of five siblings. Gwen, as she was affectionately called, was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended school at Bunche Elementary School, Anderson Junior High School and graduated from the Mighty Scot's Class of 1980 at Raymond S. McLain High School.
After graduation, Gwen attended trade school, and later, gained employment at the Williams Company, where she remained a faithful employee for thirty years. She received numerous awards and promotions. October 16th would have been thirty-one years of employment there.
She accepted Christ into her life at an early age, under the Pastoral Leadership of Bishop L. M. Musgrove, at the Church of the Living God Temple #53. Gwen was active on the Usher Board, taught Sunday School and many other capacities serving the Lord at the Church.
Gwen met her husband in 1989 and they knew instantly that this was a match made in Heaven. She married the love of her life on March 24, 1990. They were married for 21 years. Three beautiful children were born from this loving union. After joining Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband, Gwen was very active in the Church and the Creek District. She was a Sunday School Teacher of the primary class, President of the W.M.U., active in B.T.U., the Choir, Usher Ministry and Vacation Bible School, always available to help where she was needed. She was very supportive of the Church District W.M.U., Creek Ministers Wives and Widow's, as well. She constantly asked the people she met to come to Sunday School, Worship Service and any other services of the Church. It didn't matter to her who you were, she was going to invide you to church. She showed her love for the Lord by the life she lived and the people she touched.
First Lady Brewer remained faithful, even as her health began to fail and during her sickness, she made sure that her tithes and offerings were given to the church, especially an offering for her Sunday School Class. Proverbs 31 asks who can find a virtuous woman, wonderful wife and great mother, aunt, sister, friend, it is Gwen. She loved to crochet, sew, and spend time with family and friends. She is truly loved and will be greatly missed by all.
In the comfortable confines of her home, with her loving family and support group near, Gwendolyn Frances Brewer, in her 49th year, after fighting the good fight, keeping the faith, finished her course and surrendered her soul to Jesus on Friday evening, September 30, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo Davis and other relatives.
