Ms. Gwendolyn Joyce Garrett, in her 69th season of life, "took flight with Angels" on Monday morning, Jun3 13, 2016 from her home in Taft, Oklahoma.
On December 11,1946 in Muskogee,Oklahoma; a beautiful baby girl was born to the proud parents of John Henry Garrett and Monett Oletha Garrett; they named her Gwendolyn Joyce Garrett.
Gwendolyn, who was better known as "Gwen", grew up in Taft, Oklahoma where she attended the Taft Public Schools. During her adult life, Gwen, diligently worked as an Occupational Health Care Giver for many years at several different Nursing Home Facilities in the Muskogee County Area until her health began to fail.
Her love for the Lord was demonstrated in her gracious service to others. She was baptized at an early aged and became an active member of the St.Paul Baptist Church, under the Pastoral Leadership of John Walker. In her most recent years Gwen, united with New Life Ministries Church of Taft, Oklahoma under the Pastoral Leadership of Apostle Michael and Denise Gaulden Sr. where she faithfully served until her untimely death.
Loving the outdoors, Gwen was very active in planting and gardening, fishing, walking, and traveling alongside with her family to explore different parts of the World.
She was preceded in death by both parents, John and Monett Garrett. Four siblings, and two sons: Michael and John Garrett.
Gwen loved her family deeply and leaves to cherish her memories, two devoted children, one daughter, Jacqueline (Anthony) Wooden of Muskogee, OK. One son, Christopher Garrett of Muskogee,OK. Two sisters, Johnetha Erskin of Chicago, IL. Andrea Lambert of Tulsa, OK. Two brothers, Maurice Garrett of Oklahoma City,OK. Archie Garrett, of Taft, OK. A dearly beloved niece, Veronica Perkins of Washington, D.C. Nine grandchildren; Ashton Wooden, Ashley Wooden, Elijah Wooden, all of Muskogee,OK. Britany Kimble and Michael McKinney, both of Oklahoma City,OK. Rodchella Tarver, Star Garrett, both of Tulsa,OK. Tai Stancle and Lathan Stancle of Muskogee,OK. A host of Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Hour of Reflection for her will commence on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 AM at New Faith Ministries of Taft. Pastor Michael Gaulden will give the Eulogy and Pastor John Walker, Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church of Taft, will Officiate.
Burial will follow in the Taft Cemetery.
