It all began in 1911, when D.C. and Carrie Lee Smith were blessed with a new son, born on September 24, 1911 and given the name Halcie H. Smith. He was one of 13 siblings born to this union.
His life began in the Sharp Community, southwest of Okmulgee, where he spent his formative years. Halcie attended Rosenwald School.
It was in 1937, when Halcie met a beautiful young woman named Vernice Terry and began a courtship that blossomed into holy matrimony on September 24, 1939. This marriage was the foundation of sixty-one years of devotion and marital bliss.
Their love produced one son, Halcie E. Smith II. Brother Smith was active throughout his life with the A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a faithful member of Greater Jones Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Okmulgee, where he served the Lord faithfully. He was the superintendant of the Sunday school, and the secretary of the church until his health would no longer allow him to serve. Mr. Smith was well known in the community and will be missed by all who knew him.
His smile and laughter will be cherished by those who loved him.
Our Heavenly Father dispatched a Chariot of Angels to carry Halcie into that Guiding light, where eternal life begins anew.
