Obituary

On August 12, 1969, Harold Wayne Cottrell Sr., and Marcella Tate joyfully welcomed a baby boy into the world, marking the beginning of a bright and promising new life. They named him Harold Wayne Cottrell Jr.

Harold, a native of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, embarked on a new chapter in Kansas City, Kansas after finishing high school. There, he supported himself as an operator in an ice cream production facility, with black walnut being his favorite flavor. In his early years, he cherished outdoor activities such as fishing and camping with family and friends. He loved a good boxing match. He was often in the kitchen where he enjoyed cooking, particularly during holiday seasons. In his later years, his evenings were often filled with the joy of watching westerns with his youngest son or sharing precious moments with friends. Harold was a man of few words, often expressing himself with heartfelt simplicity, saying "hell yeah" or "what did I say?"

A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Harold's Sundays were reserved for cheering on his team, unwavering in his support, even if they lost. Known as the "go-to" person, he had a generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand, offering whatever he had—even when he didn't have much. Harold's kindness and dedication to those around him left a lasting impact, creating memories that would be cherished forever.

Harold passed away after a prolonged illness with cancer on May 29th, 2025, at 4:18 am.

Preceding him in death were his grandmother Ruby Cottrell, brother Terry Tate, his father Harold Cottrell Sr., and his mother Marcella Tate.

He is survived by his daughters Kayla Whitaker (Roy) and Kianna Randle; his sons Richard Randle, Eshante Cottrell, DeWayne Cottrell, and Diontia Cottrell; his brothers Dion (Cathy), Brandon (Lecretia), Christopher aka P-Nut (Charmaine); his sister Roshawn Cottrell; and his longtime girlfriend Crystal Parker. Additionally, he leaves behind 7 grandchildren and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
We love you Dad; You really were our best friend!
