Obituary

Hattie Belle Elliott, who recently celebrated her 102nd birthday, was the only child born to Nodie Lillie Bell Shipp and Millard Ingram on August 21, 1921, in Boynton, Oklahoma. She passed from this life peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, August 27, 2023.

Hattie attended the Muskogee public schools including the historic Manual Training High School and began practicing her faith at Dean's Chapel Baptist Church.

Hattie Bell married Denyveaus Xenephor "DX" Elliott in 1948, and to this union, one beautiful daughter was born, Denyvetta, affectionately nicknamed "Punkin."

As an adult, Hattie joined Union Baptist Church where she was a member for 50 years serving in various leadership roles such as BTU Director and church treasurer until the church closed. She quickly joined another neighborhood church, Central Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and the oldest member until she moved to Oklahoma City at the age of ninety-nine to live with her daughter. She loved her Central family.

Hattie discovered she had a passion for cooking at an early age. She loved cooking for her family while humming her favorite spirituals, and they can all attest that her passion has always been cooking. She worked at Severs Hotel and Holiday Inn as a breakfast cook where she perfected pancakes that would melt in your mouth. Hattie could cook a meal from scratch in no time. Some favorites were her famous banana nut bread, chocolate chip cookies, and chili. She packed them tight so everything would be intact upon arrival at destinations around the world, not even a cookie would be broken.

She was a giver, generous with her time, kindness, and always helping those in need. Hattie truly believed and practiced, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." After retiring, she volunteered at the Ark, giving off her time to be of service to others.

Hattie loved her family unconditionally. She loved to laugh and was always positive. She attributed her long life to lots of laughter and lots of prayer. Hattie was a snacker and always had candy, cookies, peanuts, and chips on hand. This was a habit she passed on to her family. She enjoyed working in the yard. She could be seen in her eighties powering up the riding mower and dawning her big floppy hat to make sure the yard looked good. Hattie also enjoyed traveling, reading the Bible, solving Word Search puzzles, and watching the news so she always knew what was going on locally and around the world. Hattie loved a good sale. She would spend hours at stores going through racks, boxes, and bins to find a bargain, especially at Walls.

Hattie stressed the importance of education and was always her family's number one fan in all their endeavors, being always supportive and always encouraging. She lived to see three generations of college graduates, collectively earning nine degrees. She attended eight of those graduations and all of her grandsons' military promotions and graduations.

Hattie leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity to her daughter, Denyvetta Davis; grandchildren, Melvin Fields (Tamela) of Olympia Washington and Erma Butler (Randy) of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Alanté Fields (Jake Enzien) of Seattle, Washington, and Camerin Killion of Madison, Wisconsin; church members; and a host of friends, relatives, and others who loved her, admired her, and sought her wise counsel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nodie Jones and Millard Ingram; stepfather, Sam Jones; siblings, Zenephor "Bill" Young, Earl, Minerva, Melvin, Dorothy, Katherine, Almetta, Trotter, Curtis, Erma Jean, and Roseanna Ingram; and great- granddaughter, Ashonté D'Von Fields.

As the matriarch of the family, we will cherish her life and memory forever.
