IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hattie Marie
Folks
March 14, 1950 – June 8, 2017
On March 14, 1950, a baby girl was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Willie and Carol Foster. They named her Hattie Marie. She was the sixth child born to their union. Her oldest brother, Billie, called her Maggie. She was affectionately called "ReRe" by her grandchildren and those who knew and loved her.
She attended Charles S. Johnson & Dunbar, Anderson, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1968. She attended Greater St. John A.M.E. Church with her family when she was younger. She was a bank teller for many years, then became a secretary for St. John A.M.E. Church, and in October 1988, she began working at the library where she remained until June 2017.
She had such a big heart full of love and compassion, always ready and willing to give or help someone, which is one of the reasons she enjoyed working at the library. One of her favorite things to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to buy them special gifts. She also adored nature; she had such a green thumb, and she loved to plant flowers. Her favorite color was blue and her favorite T.V. show was "Perry Mason".
On June 8th, Marie's journey ended; her task was complete. She is now at a peaceful rest.
On this day, June 24th, our family was planning a family reunion, which she was very excited about. Today, we celebrate her life and legacy she left for us. She showed us that you do not need to have a lot to give a little and you can have a little and give so much!
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Sr. and Carol Foster, and two brothers, Robert and Ronald Foster.
Those who will forever cherish her memories in their hearts: Marie's husband, Samuel Folks; Marie's children, one son, Darren (Jenna); three daughters, DeAunna Foster-Ringer (Lawrence), Donika (Karim), and Samara (Michael); and one bonus son, Jojuan Isom; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; Marie's siblings, two brothers, Willie, Jr. and Larry; three sisters, Barbara, Patricia, and Carolyn; and Marie's nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
