Obituary

On October 22, 1946, in Okay, Oklahoma a beautiful baby girl was born to Ben & Lee Anna Bell.  They named her Hattie after Lee Anna's only sister.  She was the 6th of 9 children.  Hattie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Hattie always had a love for education.  She attended Carver Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1966.  She went on to further her education at Langston University where she met and married Thomas J. Humphrey in 1969.  Hattie and Thomas (T.J.) had 3 children, Dana Jean (deceased), Christa LaShon, and Aaron Emmanuel.  She also pledged Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. at Langston University.  She transferred to Central State University, now known as the University of Central Oklahoma, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Art Education in 1972.  Hattie taught for over 39 years in Oklahoma City and Tulsa Public Schools.  She taught elementary, middle, and high school.  She received several accolades during her teaching career, including "Teacher of the Year."

Hattie was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Tulsa, OK and served the Lord in many capacities, such as: a choir member, deaconess, and provided fun, creative art activities during Vacation  Bible School.

Hattie was beautiful inside & out.  Her smile was infectious.  She loved everybody & treated every child she encountered as if they were her own.  God called His precious saint home on October 25, 2023.  Preceding her in death are her parents, Ben & Lee Anna Bell; aunt, Hattie Maxwell and uncles; Thomas Terrell, Aaron Terrell, and Jason Terrell siblings, Bobbie Smith, Quinzella Henderson, Bernice Crawford, Anna Rice, and brother, Johnny Bell; brother-in-law, William Humphrey and her oldest daughter, Dana Jean.  She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories:  husband, T.J.; daughter, Christa, and son, Aaron; 6 grandchildren, Christian Dawn, Hannah Raynae, Trenten Donell, Erin LaShon, Travis Emmanuel, and Chloe LaShon; two sisters; Deloyce Walker and Helen Bell, and brother, LeRoy Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives & friends.

Mrs. Hattie Mae Humphrey, in her 77th season, transitioned from this life to everlasting memory on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 in Glenpool, OK.
