Haywood "Bangs" Payne's Obituary

Calhoun, Mississippi is where Haywood and Ethel Payne, Sr., became the proud parents of a baby boy on the 29th day of April, 1939. This new son, the fourth child of eleven siblings was named after his father.


Haywood Jr., was better known to all who knew him as "Bang." He was a licensed welder by trade and was employed by several different companies in the Metropolitan area.

Later in life, he became self-employed. He was the owner and operator of the Taurus Club and also the Corner Bar. He was a people person and enjoyed life.


Mr. Payne also loved sports. He even coached at one time. He was well known by many people and was liked by all he came into contact with. Although he had been ill and bedridden over the past eleven years, he still fought a good fight until then end came.


Mr. Haywood Payne, in his 66th year, surrendered his Soul on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 from Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.


He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Ernestine; three sons, two daughters and two step-children; his brothers, LeRoy [Velma] Payne, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, James O. Payne, San Antonio, Texas, Reverend George Payne, C. L. Payne, Billy W. [Renita] Payne, and Thomas G. Payne, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; an aunt, Lula Mae Keyes; along with a caravan of grandchildren, relatives and friends; and a life-long friend, Dorothy Midget.


The final farewell will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Full Gospel Family Outreach Ministries, 1609 North Evanston Avenue in Tulsa. Bishop Harold W. Jones, Pastor, will preside. Burial will follow the services at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.

You may visit Mr. Payne on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at the church in Tulsa and also at the conclusion of the funeral ceremony on Thursday.
