Ms. Hazel Tate, after 69 years, dozed into Eternal Slumber on Saturday morning, February 15, 2020 in Muskogee.
Hazel Carmela Tate, also known as the "Baby Sis", was born to the late Elizabeth (Elston) and Walter Tate, Sr., on January 11, 1951, in Boynton, Oklahoma. After Hazel's mother's death at a young age, Hazel's father married Viola Mae (Henry) Tate and she was raised by her Aunt Emma Tate.
Hazel was a member of the Wilson Chapel Baptist Church until she graduated from Taft Moton High School, where she was Valedictorian of her class of 1969. She then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where her loving son, Aaron Tate was born. Hazel eventually moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she lived for many years and worked at North American Insurance Company. She also was a waitress at night and an active member of Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
After relocating to Chicago, Illinois, because of her job, Hazel lived there for many years until she retired and became ill, at which time she returned home to Oklahoma. Hazel was an avid sports fan of all sports. Of course, the Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls were her favorite teams. Hazel loved to read all types of books but mystery and sci-fi books were among her favorites. She loved the Lord and read her bible daily before bed.
Her legacy lives on through my son, Aaron S.Tate (Reda), and her grandchildren, Erin Tate, Ryan Tate (Bethany) and Myla Tate.
Hazel also leaves her sister, Erma Jean Lewis (William), Tulsa, Oklahoma; her brothers, Walter Tate, Jr, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Allen Sherron (Eugenia), Taft, Oklahoma, Cleo Durant, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Pete Durant, Richard Tate (Danetta) Muskogee, Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in in death were her mother, Elizabeth (Elston) Tate, her father, Walter Tate, Sr, her bonus mom, Viola Mae (Henry) Tate, her sisters, Laura (Tate) Walker and Harrien (Tate) Hale, her brothers, Franklin Tate, Dwight Tate, Jeff Tate and Donald Ray Durant.
