What a joyous day it was on August 12, 1929, when a beautiful, baby girl was born to Charlie and Carrie Shine in Cathy, Oklahoma. They named her Helen.
As a young girl, she took on great responsibility, helping her mother with her younger siblings. Little did she know that her mother's teaching would prepare her for what was to come.
Helen attended and graduated from Dubois School in Summit, Oklahoma. She soon met and married Clyde Brown, making it a priority to always keep God first. He blessed them with the love of having nine, beautiful children. Confessing to the Lord, the family joined Rayfield Baptist Church under the late T. L. Turner. The family later joined Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, now under the leadership of Reverend Vanzelen G. Brown, where she remained a faithful member until her health began to fail her.
Helen continued to keep her children near her after the passing of her love, Clyde in 1980. Helen and her children had a very strong bond in which no one could break. At least one of her children was always at her side. She enjoyed each and every one of her children and grandchildren. Helen shared a unique relationship with each of her children, even though she struggled with the various attitudes and personality of each one of her children. God blessed her with the knowledge of just what each one needed and she gave it accordingly. She always said "I know each and every one of my kids, and they can't pass anything by me!" Her unconditional love for her family allowed her to raise several of her grandchildren.
On Friday, June 25, 2010 at 2:30 A.M., with all her children at her side, our Heavenly Father whispered to Helen "you have given so much and worked so hard in your life, come to me, I have a resting place for you."
Those that were waiting for her arrival while resting above; her husband, Clyde Brown, Sr., two grandchildren, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Her memories live on in her children; Clyde Brown, Jr. [Debra], Joyce Richardson, Charlene Gilyard, Patricia Rouse, Charlotte Ward, Vickie Ragsdale [Michael], Terri Howell, Elizabeth Hill [Herbert], and Kimberly Starr; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosa Derrick; her brothers, Truman Shine, Ira-Lee Shine, Elliott Shine[DaRhonda], Herman Shine, Charlie Shine, III[Margaret] and Jody Shine[Minnie]; her sisters-in-law, Almarie Jamerson, Velma Brown, Essie Dunn and Gladys Brown; her brother-in-law, Howard Brown, Sr.; and special God-sons, Ray McNeal and Al Buffington[Ruth]; as well as a caravan of other relatives and friends.
