Obituary

Helen Roland was the youngest of 13 children, born to the proud parents of Lizzie and Emery Roland in Beggs, OK June 10, 1916.
Both parents, all siblings, 1 granddaughter-Tanya, 1-great grandson-Machenry, and 1 great-great grandson-Terrell, preceded her in death.

Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the tender age of 8 years old and attended Wheatley school in Beggs, OK.

Helen eventually moved from Beggs to South Haven to raise her 4 children, Elijah, Elizabeth, Pearl & Georgetta where they joined Corner Stone Baptist Church. The family later moved to Tulsa where Helen worked as a cook at Chuck Wagon Restaurant for many years, until her retirement.

Helen later joined Greater Union Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor S. M. Harnsberry where she remained faithful, until her health failed her.

Helen was God's ambassador during her time on this earth. She loved telling friends, family and strangers of God's love for them, and how Jesus was getting us ready for that Great Day! Young Roland, as she was lovingly called, loved to praise the Lord, and compose gospel songs to sing in church.

On Friday morning, June 1, 2007 at 11:55a.m., "Young Roland" surrendered her soul to the Lord.

Remaining to wait on the Lord: her children Elijah Alexander, Elizabeth McGhee, Pearl (Walter) Williams, Georgetta Sumlin. Her Grandchildren: Renetta (Teddy), Rodney, Helen Michelle (Jimmy), John (Mary), Sammy Jr., Sheretta, Miles Jr.(Pricilla), Keenan (Erika), Falecia, Darnell, Elizabeth (Burley), Miriam (Michael), Brian, Nicole and Natasha (Terry), 35-Great Grand-children and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. Her cousin Eula Evans, 2 nieces; Juanita Hughes and Verdilee Shelton of Seattle, WA, a host of family, friends, and her Greater Union Baptist Church Family.
