Mr. Herbert Ceasar, after 74 years, surrendered his soul on Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014 from Muskogee.
It all began on March 14, 1940, when a son was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma from the loving union of Hurda Jake and Lillie Mae [Duckins] Ceasar. He was the fifth of eight children and was named Herbert.
Herbert's mother passed from this life in 1948 and the children were placed in the care of the D.B.& O. in Taft, Oklahoma. The residents and the community of Taft became family for one another. Herbert attended Moton High School, where he played basketball for the Moton Panthers. His junior and Senior years were spent at the Historic Manual Training High School in Muskogee, graduating with the Prestigious Class of 1959.
Following graduation, Herbert moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he moved to Los Angeles, California and was employed with the Rapid Transit Division as a Bus Driver for 17 years.
In 1959, Herbert and Elnora Sneed had a daughter, whom they named Sharon. In 1969, Herbert married Mary Anderson and this marriage was later dissolved. After relocating to Taft, Herbert married Elsie Gandy in 1994.
Mr. Ceasar was a happy and giving person, known to all as the "Watermelon & Corn Man," and he believed in feeding everybody. One of his last requests was to make sure his friends and relatives got their watermelons.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sharon Ceasar; and his siblings, Phillip Ceasar, Doretha Jackson, Cletis Anglin, Zelda Henderson, Olivette Ceasar and Ellis Ceasar.
