Herbert Hitchye was born in Oktaha, Oklahoma on November 6, 1947, the son of Claude and Ruby [Holmes] Hitchye. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. Mark Baptist church with his parents.
Herbert attended Douglas elementary school, Sadler Jr. High School and ultimately The historic Manual Training High School, where he Graduated with the Class of 1967.
He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1967, where he served his country honorably from 1967 to 1969 and was Honorably discharged due to being injured in the Vietnam War. He received a purple heart medal for his sacrifice in Vietnam.
After his honorable discharge, he moved back home to Oklahoma. He married Jacquelyn Reed and to that union, he had three daughters; Sabrina, Tonya and Tiffany. The marriage eventually dissolved. He also had another son with Joyce Brown; they had a son named Chris.
On July 18, 1986, he married Linda Kimble, the love of his life. They joined their children together as one big family. He helped raise her 2 sons, Alex and Troy Kimble and eventually adopted Trebreh and Crystal. He converted to the Church of Christ and served in the church as an Usher, Bus driver and cook.
Herbert worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center as a dieticiary cook for many years and retired in 2003. He spent his retirement taking care of his family, catering events, caring for grandchildren, and ensuring he created a family ritual of cooking catfish every Friday.
Herbert was the life of the household. He loved taking care of everyone. He was the person people called on when they needed help. Linda and Herbert remained happily married for almost 35 years. They loved each other dearly.
In his 73rd year, Herbert HItchye left this life for a life eternal on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ruby Hitchye; his daughter, Sabrina Hitchye, his son-in-law, Jason Woodfaulk, and his siblings, Vivian, Marva, Marvin, Brenda Joice, Floyd, Rudolph, Felton, Claudia, Wanda and Glen Hitchye.
He leaves in God's Care; his loving wife, Linda Hitchye; his Children, Chris Brown (Dianna); Alex Kimble, Troy Kimble (Stacy),Tonya Hitchye(Jason), Tiffany Hitchye-Woodfaulk (Hosea), Trebreh Hitchye, Crystal Swayer. And a caravan of grandchildren, great-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
The Hour of Remembrance for Mr. Hitchye will be held on Thursday March 4, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the 18th and Denison Church of Christ. Brother Eric Rodgers, Pastor, will Officiate.
The Final Salute will be at 2:00 PM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
You may visit Mr. Hitchye, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
