Obituary

On January 23, 1940, a bouncing baby boy was born to Joseph and Ruth Barre Peigne in Grayson, Oklahoma. They named their newest edition, Herbert. "Herb," as so many called him grew up with three sisters: Elmira, Jenetha, and Florence "Ann." Herbert attended Holy Family and Booker T. Washington High School graduating with the mighty class of 1957. He was very active and well known to be a sharp dresser.

At an early age, Herbert dedicated his life to God. A diligent member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He loved reading his Bible and he was a prayer warrior. In the early 1960s, he met and married Gloria Jean Nicholson. From that union, two beautiful daughters were born: Robyn Pleshette and Lisa Michelle. Although that marriage ended, he maintained a strong relationship with his daughters. "Herb" had a zest for life. He later found love again with Peggy Bacon. This union would produce his only son, Joey Jermaine. Mr. Peigne was employed with American Airlines where he would later retire as a crew chief. He always had a passion for cooking. After his retirement, he was able to fulfill his dream by becoming one of the Williams Co. Head Chefs. Every morning, he was greeted with tons of emails from strangers who had the privilege to taste many of his delicious dishes. As he would say: "it's all in the smell." His gumbo and smothered steak and gravy were a family favorite. He would love to say "come here and taste this...tender as a mother's love..."

Shortly after Williams Co. closed, "Herb" continued to spread his love and one-of-a-kind spirit of cooking to his community. He began working thru AARP with minority summer camp programs providing hot lunches prepared daily for many children. Being a totally devoted grandfather, every summer he would take his granddaughters to work with him to be able to spend "papa time" in order for him to "keep my eyes on ya" as he would say. Mr. Peigne shared a very special relationship with each of his grandchildren, always taking out time to talk, listen, and give great guidance. He loved them unconditionally. He also loved spending time with his "boys:" Joey, Cody, Karon, and Sparky. One sibling, Florence Ann Norton preceded him in death.

Remaining to cherish his memories: his children: Robyn Bryant (Eric); and their children Isis Simone and Marcellus Peigne, Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Peigne-Colbert; and her children Larry "Cody" Sydni, Whitni, Armani, Cameron, and Jada, Tulsa, and Muskogee, OK, Joey Peigne; and children Brianna and Kion, Tulsa, OK; siblings: Elmira Oliphant (Bobby), Tulsa, OK, Jenetha Phillips (Woody), Los Angeles, CA; and brother in-law, Vernell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

"Turn to me and be safe, all you ends of the earth,

for I am God; there is no other!"

Isaiah 45:22
