IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herman Walker,
Sr.
June 7, 1953 – January 20, 2025
Herman Walker Sr., aged 71, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025. Born on June 7, 1953, in Boynton, Oklahoma to Leo Herbert Sr. and Eddie (Syas) Walker. Herman was known for his gentle and loving nature, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Herman went to Boynton High School where he played and excelled at basketball. After high school, he married Pamela Lawson and they were blessed with five children. This union was later dissolved. In moving to Oklahoma City, he dedicated 20+ years of employment to the city of Oklahoma City in the Water and Waste Management Department, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. During his faithful work for the city Herman sustained an on-the-job injury to his leg, but that never stopped him from living the life he wanted to live. Herman reunited with a high school friend, Norma Gean Borens, and they ultimately married. They lived in Redbird, OK until Norma's passing after a lengthy illness. Herman obtained employment with the Boynton & Redbird Water Dept. where he made life-long friendships that were very special to him.
Herman was an active member of Rayfield Baptist Church where he met his devoted wife Gloria Ledbetter Walker. They married on March 16, 2013, and resided in Redbird, OK. Their shared values and goals were an asset to the community of Boynton and Redbird, OK. Herman was a strong man of faith and he and Gloria's favorite scripture was Zechariah 4:6 – So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: "Not my might nor by power, but by my Spirit", says the Lord Almighty.
Herman was very proud of his five children and his six step-children. He especially loved time spent during annual Father's Day fishing trips with his brothers, sons, grandsons and nephews. A passionate fisherman, Herman found joy and solace by the water. Herman also loved simple things in life: grilling, spending time with family and friends sharing stories and having a good laugh.
Herman's legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His gentle spirit and unwavering support for others made his family and this world a better place.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Herbert Sr. and Eddie Walker; Siblings Ruby Wilson, Mary Walker, Alonzo Walker and John Walker.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Gloria Ledbetter Walker (whom he affectionately referred to as "my sweetie"); his children Michael Walker (Yolanda), Alicia Walker, Latasha Bray (Strolen), Herman Walker, Jr. (Jazmin), Dewayne Walker, Sr. (Devinne), step-children Dwan Borens (Mercy), Ralph Atkins (Dollie), Twyla Atkins, Marvin Atkins (Makeysha), Shaun Atkins, Sr., Chris Atkins, Sr. (Lynndi); *Gary T Mitchum, Minister Jethena Mitchell (Pastor Joshua), Robert Puckett (Miya); a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren; Siblings: Leo Walker (*Wilma), Barbara Thompson (Bill), Norma Cannady (Johnny), Edna Presley (*Rufus) Saundra Harrison (Quinton), Leroy Walker, Sr. (Clara), L.C.
