Obituary

Mr. Herman Thompson, in his 65th year, received his "Heavenly Discharge" on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from the Jack C. Montgomery V. A. Regional Medical Center in Muskogee.

On October 28, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a baby boy was born to Comilla and Earnest Eugene Thompson. They named him Herman Eugene. He was the first of two children born to this loving union. Affectionately referred to as "Catnip," he joined Spring Bluff Baptist Church at an early age, where he was baptized. He attended Tulsa Public School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High school with the class of 1963. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army, and discharged with an Honorable Discharge. "Catnip" met and married Barbara Owens. This union produced one child, Lamar E. Thompson.

Mr. Thompson had a kind spirit, a good heart, a huge and welcoming smile. He never met a stranger. Soon after meeting him, you would see that everyone he crossed paths with was his friend. He also made others feel the same way about him. He devoted a lot of time remembering birthdays, anniversaries, of loved ones, and friends. You would get a card, or kind words from him, and that will be truly missed. He worked many years as a general contractor, and loved working with his hands. With the mechanical skills he possessed, he also became an auto mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother: Sammie Johnson.

Remaining to forever cherish "Catnip's" memories: his son, Lamar Thompsn (Tasha), Tulsa, OK., one sister, Barbara Thompson, California, three step-brothers: Robert Mingilton, Sr., Tulsa, OK., Johnnie Mingilton, Jr., Wichita, KS., and Lonnell Mingilton, Tulsa, OK., one aunt, Lillie V. Miller, Tulsa, OK., one niece, Vivian Thompson, Washington State, two grandchildren: Lareasha Thomspn, Latoyia Thomspn, Tulsa, OK., one great-grandson, Bryson Lamont Delouiser, and a host of other relatives, and friends.

His Hour of Tribute will be on Friday July 22, 2011 at 11AM inside our All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa. Friends may visit him on Thursday from 12Noon to 7PM.
