Obituary

The 3rd of 9 children born from the loving union of James and Aplis Jones arrived on December 29, 1913 in Rentiesville, OK. She was named Hestella. At an early age, she professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Rentiesville.

In her early 20's, she moved to Dallas, TX, where she met Jimmie C. Brown. They were united in marriage on October 4, 1947 in San Francisco, CA. In San Francisco, she was a long time member of the Third Baptist Church, serving the Lord faithfully on the Deaconess Board, working with the Women's Mission Society and active with the Baptist Training Union.

Upon the death of her husband on December 5, 2000, Hestella decided to make her way back to her homeplace, first moving to Dallas and later to Muskogee. She was a loving homemaker and a "Great Cook."

As a resident of Dogwood Creek Retirement Center, she met many new friends, where she was given the nickname of "Butterfly" because of her warm smile and "always waving" to everyone she saw.

Hestella Brown, after 93 seasons, left Earth for Glory on Monday afternoon, September 17, 2007 from Muskogee. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lincoln Jones and a sister, Irene Parrett.

She leaves precious memories in the hearts of her loved ones; 3 sisters, Bernice Sheppard, Rentiesville, OK, Eola Atkinson, Muskogee, OK and Thelma Jackson, Dallas, TX; a brother, Albert Jones, Kansas City, MO; her God-son, Douglas Haynes, San Francisco, CA; special friends, Daisy Roseborough, Chicago, IL, and Dorothy Johns, Dallas, TX; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-niecnes and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends in California.

The farewell tribute will be on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Pastor, Rev. Vanzelen G. Brown will officiate. Mrs. Brown will then be carried to San Francisco, honoring her final request to be placed in the Skylawn Memorial Park, next to her beloved husband, Jimmie on Wednesday.
