Howard Shipp, Sr., was born February 25, 1919 in Summit, Oklahoma to James and Mildred [Crawford] Shipp. The fourth child of seven siblings, he was affectionately referred to as "Keets."
At an early age, Mr. Shipp moved with his family to Beland, Oklahoma, where he accepted Christ at St. James Baptist Church, and received his education at McSwain School.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Valentine Mackey. The were blessed with one son and two daughters.
Prior to joining the Military services, he worked for a construction company as a cement finisher. He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge as a World War II veteran. After returning from the Army, he continued his career as a construction cement finisher, which caused him to travel frequently. Later, he started his own construction company.
Mr. Shipp moved his family to Muskogee, Oklahoma. He rededicated his life to God and joined Dean's Chapel Baptist Church under Reverend Don Dumas, Pastor. He loved using his construction skills for jobs that needed to be done around his church. Also, he enjoyed working with the Brotherhood and was faithful in attended his Adult Sunday School Class and the worship services until his health began to fail.
Mr. Shipp passed October 9, 2009 at Saint Simeon Episcopal Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, five brothers and one sister.
He leaves to cherish his memory; a son, Dr. Howard Shipp, Jr., and wife, Dr. Jeanetta Shipp, Stillwater, Oklahoma,; his daughters, Betty Shipp Parker, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Judy Shipp Goff and husband Frank, Bixby, Oklahoma; one grandson, Jackie Shipp, Norman, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The farewell will be on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Dean's Chapel Baptist Church. Reverend Don Dumas, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
