Monday morning, October 31, 2011, Heaven received Imogene Armster, while convalescing at Wellington Hills Nursing Center in Eufaula.
Imogene Ballard Armster, affectionately known as "Jeanie" was born from the union of James Ballard and Susie [Adams] Ballard on October 1, 1942 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of 12 children.
The family later moved to Muskogee, where she geban her formative education. She attended Jerusalem Country School, Dunbar Elementary, Sadler Jr. High and graduated from Historic Manual Training High School in 1962.
Jeanie became employed with Susman's Department Store as a window dresser, until she met the man of her life, Mr. Billie Armster. She and Billie became one in Holy Matrimony on July 13, 1969. They were blessed with 4 beautiful children.
At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior under the pastorage of Rev. Frank Roberts at Jerusalem Baptist Church. She held various positions in the Church and was faithful until her health began to fail. She was the oldest remnant of the church; even though many fell by the wayside, some left and came back, Jeanie remained, assisting in whatever the need was for her Church family.
She will be remembered by her family for being a skillful player of marbles as a child, beating the boys in the neighborhood and then taking their marbles, good dancing talents [light on her feet] and her love for eating dill pickles, so much she received a jar of pickles one Christmas from her Pastor. Jeanie enjoyed sewing for her girls. They were matched from top to bottom. A Ballard family trait that came from her mother was eating red clay dirt. Jeanie and her sisters would dig the dirt, clean it, bake it, then eat it.
She was preceded in death bher her parents, a brother, Carl Ballard; 5 sisters, Ophelia Evans, Wilma Briscoe, Maxine Harlin, Earnestine Bell and Mynia Mae Robinson, along with a grandson, Jamarius Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her faithful husband of 43 years, Billie Joseph Armster; 3 daughters, Rhonda, Alessa Rose, and Ebony, all of Texas; a son, Brandon, Muskogee; a step-daughter, Estella Armster, Lawton, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Velma Wooten, Minnie Lee Sells and Juanita Smith; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Service of Memory was on Friday, November 4, 2011 in the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
