Obituary

On April 8, 1927, Isabell Pettie was born from the union of Frank and Fellow Pettie. She was the only girl out of her eight siblings. Beautiful Isabell grew up and attended school in Bixby, Oklahoma.

With her first romantic love, George W. Simmons, she gave birth to Charles L. Simmons. Later in life, Isabell became Mrs. Penn with her marriage to Emerson Penn Senior. They were married for 57 years. Star, Emerson Jr., Doris, Lillian, Jacqueline, Linda, Kenneth, Keith and Anita came from the union of Emerson and Isabell Penn.

Isabell fondly became known as Mama Penn, because she was a great mother. She expressed motherly love to her children and others. Mama Penn was close to her grand and great grandchildren. People were attracted to her beauty and loved her because of her care for others and her humor.

Isabell enjoyed many years of fun work as a cake decorator with Safeway. She later operated her own daycare for a few years.

Mother Penn attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church for several years. Then she attended Friendship Baptist Church. On July 10, 1999, Mama Penn renewed her walk with Christ and became a member of Tulsa New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church. She recognized the benefits of being saved the longer she lived. In fact, Mama Penn asked again in the name of Christ for our Heavenly Father to save her in September 2015. During her last days, she desired for family to stay with her, stay close and be saved.

On October 7, 2015, Isabell Penn went into rest in Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband: Emerson Penn Sr., her son: Charles L. Simmons, parents: Frank and Fellow Pettie, her brothers: Howard Gibbs, Frank Pettie Jr., Jake Pettie, Elmer Pettie, Ozell Pettie, L.C. Pettie and Homer Pettie, her grandson: Artie Burton IV and her great grandsons: Khalid Muse and Calib J.T. Simmons.

Mama Penn leaves cherish memories with her children: Star Griffin (Grant Sr.), Emerson Penn Jr., Doris Taylor (Granville), Lillian Penn Robateau (Bruce), Jacqueline Penn, Linda Hutton, Kenneth Penn (Denise), Keith Penn and Anita Penn, her step-son: Charles Penn, her brother: Otis Pettie (Lula), her beloved friend: George W. Simmons, her brother-in-laws: Joseph Reason (Kay) and James Penn, her sister-in-laws: JoAnn Mangum and Mary Reason, her 51 grandchildren, her more than 70 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. I Thessalonians 4:16 (KJV)

Her services will be Thursday October 15, 2015 at 11am at The Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 920 S. New Haven in Tulsa.

Friends may visit her on Wednesday from 12noon until 6pm in Tulsa.

A wake from 6PM until 8PM will take place inside the Tulsa All Faiths Chapel.
