On November 20, 1921 James "JB" Bertrnad was born in Miltonberg, Louisiana to Nelso and Mary Bertrand. He was the youngest of four children. After graduating high school, he enlisted int eh United States Army in 1942 serving in Italy during World War II.
He married Ella Margaret Wilson on December 4, 1945, and to this union four children were born. He worked at Tulsa Country Club for 39 years as a bartender. "JB" converted to Catholicism and joined his family at St. Augustine in 1966. He was active in all church activities and celebrations.
He was a member of St. Augustine's and served as treasure for the Knights of Peter Claver, Edmund Hunter Council #237. Even after retirement, he continued to volunteer his time at his church.
His parents, two sisters, Sadie Thurman and Hazel Watts and one brother Rufus Bertrand preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife off 66 years, Ella, daughters: Cheryl Pyles, Inglewood, CA., May Thomas (Tom), and Stephanie Bertrand, Tulsa, OK., son, Ronald Bertrand (Brenda) Los Angeles, CA., 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother in-law, Vernon Wilson (Mary Lou), Wichita, KS., two nieces: Joanne Middleton (Larry), and Brenda Jackson (Herman), and many, many other family members and friends.
The Funeral Mass for Mr. James Benard Bertrand will be Monday February 27, 2012 at 10AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Tulsa. Friends may visit Mr. Bertrand on Sunday from 3PM-5PM in Tulsa. A Rosary will be held at 6PM at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Sunday.
