On October 14, 1936 a baby boy was born to Eunice Richardson in
Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was given the name James Edward. James was the
third of seven children. The family lived in Muskogee, where he
attended Historic Manual Training High School before enlisting in the
United States Army in 1954.
He served his Country honorably for over twenty years. James as
"Sargent Brown" with the 827th Supply Company that was located in
Muskogee, Oklahoma. While serving with the unit, he traveled to South
Korea, which was one of the highlights during his time of service. He
retired from the unit after serving 20 years. James worked as a
supervisor with Funsten Nut Company for over 10 years and then worked
as a machine operator for Georgia-Pacific until he retired after 15
years.
James met the love of his life in 1953, Ida M. McGee and they were
married on May 23, 1958. They made their home in Muskogee. Their
loving union was blessed with four children. A girl, Ida, a son,
James, Jr., and twins, Paula and Paul.
Affectionately known by his family as "PaPa," Mr. Brown was a strong,
loving and caring man and the rock of his family. Because of his
military background, things had to be done a certain way with his
approval. All in all, "PaPa" had a kind heart and would halep anyone
who needed help. He was liked and loved by everyone who knew him. In
his spare time, he coached little league baseball for Pepsi Cola and
Teel Laundry. He also coached the girl's softball team for the
Muskogee Phoenix. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his
great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and doing handy work around
the house.
In his 76th year with us, Mr. James Edward Brown "joined the Army of
the Lord" on Sunday morning, August 18, 2013 from Muskogee. He was
preceded in death by his mother, two sisters, Lorene Brown and Betty
Shaw, a brother, Paul Brown, a sister-in-law, Helen Epps, a brother and
sister-in-law, Curtis and Sylvia Black and a granddaughter, Nicole
Warren.
He leaves in God's care; his loving wife, Ida M. Brown, of the home;
his children, Ida and Robert Warren, Paula and Brian Donaldson, James
Brown, Jr., Paul Brown, and Damon Escoe; his brother, Simon Epps; a
sister, Vivian [Larry] Stearn; his grandchildren, Kenesha Brown, James
Allen and Jennifer Weaver, Robert and Christy Warren and Amber and
Markeus Moore; his great-grandchildren, Lonnie Jackson, Dai Shawn
Allen, Aubrielle Brown, Bryant Allen, Kaleb Brown, Austyn Allen, Kai
Warren and Zayla Moore; his sisters-in-law, Mabel Kinnell, Muskogee,
Oklahoma and Linda McGee, Kansas City, Missouri; his brothers-in-law,
John M. McGee [Louisa] and Willie[George] McGee; along with a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Final Salute will be given on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Central Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Ray K. Gaines, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson.
You may visit Mr. Brown on Thursday from 10 AM until 6 PM at the funeral home. The family will receive friends beginning at 6 PM at the funeral home for those who would like to share remarks and fond memories with them.
