Obituary

On January 23, 1947, a blessing and a miracle was bestowed upon James C. and Marjoria Davis in Detroit, Michigan. He was given the name sake of his father, James Cullen Davis, Jr.

This first born child was raised in the reverence of the Lord, received Christ and was baptized at the estimated age of seven years old.

James attended Muskogee Public Schools, graduating from Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1966 and during his lifetime, he worked to provide for his family at Fansteel.

After 63 seasons, James Cullen Davis, Jr., surrendered his soul on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Louise Stanback-Penny, his beloved son, Keith Bernard Davis and his little brother, LeRoy Penney, III.

Those that wait on the Lord; his mantle, his strongtower, his "goodthang", his loving, faithful and virtuous wife, Betty Jo [Gaines] Davis; this union was blessed with four truly devoted sons, Christopher Boyce Davis, Keith Bernard Davis, Corzetti Lathell Davis and James Cullen Davis, III [Brandi]; James was also blessed with Joyceleyn Davis, Jarita Davis, Le'Antanette Johnson, Antonio Palmore and Rodney Palmore; he was the grandfather of twenty-four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lela Brown and Felicia Penney; an aunt, Wilma Jean Hall; a first-cousin, Myrionette Dozier; a loving mother and father-in-law, Fletcher and Josephine Gaines; three brothers-in-law, Freddy Gaines [Elrina], Marvin Gaines [Mae] and Alvin Gaines; six sisters-in-law, Virginia Milton [Claudius], Gloria Marshall [Clifford], Linda Jones [Carl], Lydia Gaines, Jennifer Maple[Robert], Sharon Peterson [Anthony]; along with a caravan of nieces, nephtes, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other family and friends to bid, farewell.

The Service of Memory for Mr. Davis will be on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Porter, Oklahoma. Reverend Henry McVay, Jr., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.

You may visit Mr. Davis, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Muskogee on Tuesday, from 10 AM to 6 PM.
