In Detroit, Texas, Walter Duncan and Erma Lee McQueen became the proud parents of a precious baby boy on December 28, 1935. They named their son James Harold Duncan.
Better known to family and friends as "Leroy McGilla Cuttie," Harold accepted Christ into his life at an early age. He attended school at Douglas Elementary and graduated from Manual Training High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Air Force.
He met and married Estella Burton and their union was blessed with 2 daughters. He also had a son and an adopted daughter. His grandchildren called him "PaPa" and he loved hunting, fishing, cooking, playing domino's and listening to the Blues.
After 72 years, James Harold Duncan answered the Master's call on Thursday morning, November 22, 2007 from Midwest City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a daughter, Deonga Duncan.
He leaves to cherish his homegoing; his wife of 52 years, Estella Duncan; 2 daughters, Shirlene Elois [Clarence] Wright and Jamesetta "Denise" Payne [James], Oklahoma City, OK; a son, Tony Duncan, Tulsa, OK; his adopted daughter, Patricia [Rodney] Edwards, Tulsa, OK; his adopted son, Marcus Jones, Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren, James Allen "DeWayne", Malisa, Antoine "Deon", Shay and Nesheia, all of Oklahoma City and Deontre' Youngblood; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The service of remembrance for "Harold" will be on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Mark Baptist Church. Rev. Anthony L. Scott, Sr., is the gracious host Pastor and Rev. Steve Rucker, Officiant. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma at 2:00 P.M., with Military Honors.
