Obituary

Willie and Katherine Delbridge-Lewis' loving union produced nine beautiful children. The fifth of those children was an adorable baby boy born on May 22, 1950 in Etta, Mississippi. In his fourth year, the family relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended Tulsa Public Schools. His education culminated with his graduation from the historic Booker T. Washington High School with the proud Class of 1968. Shortly after, James enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War before receiving an honorable discharge.

Mr. Lewis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized by the late Rev. N.J. Winnbush at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Tulsa. He later united with Free Will Baptist Church. James graduated from Heavy Equipment School in Drumright, which helped him later gain employment with Oklahoma Natural Gas until his health began to fail. On Tuesday morning, February 27, 2007, James Luster Lewis answered His Master's Call.

Both of James' parents preceded him in death, as did his brother Robert Lewis. Remaining to cherish James' precious memories: his daughter, Angela Carter and grandson Marquino Carter, Tulsa, OK., an uncle, Albert Delbridge, Holly Springs, Mississippi, his aunts; Lucinda Ford, Dibeville, MS., Selena Booker Sample, West Memphis, AR., four sisters; Maerine Davis, Anna Lewis, Maggie Northington, all of Tulsa, OK., three brothers; Willie Lewis (Yvonne), Theroda Lewis, and Steve Lewis, all of Tulsa, OK., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Home Going Celebration for Mr. Lewis will be Tuesday March 6, 2007 at 11AM at All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa. Friends may visit Mr. Lewis as he slumbers at the funeral home on Monday from 12Noon to 7PM.
