Obituary

Janet Smith was born to parents, Zenobia Smith and Raymond Smith, on September 19, 1948, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Growing up she had a wonderful relationship with her grandmother, Julia Fisher, who she adored and who she saw as her role model in life and had many adventures with her two brothers, Clinton and Raymond Smith, Jr.

She married Darrell Troutt in 1968, and to that union was born one child, their daughter who they named Denise Troutt. They later went their separate ways. On July 2, 1982, she married Larry Colbert, whom she was married to until her passing. Through this union, she was blessed with two stepsons through Larry Colbert.

Preservation, promotion, and protection describes God's favor on Janet Colbert's lifestyle during her education and career as the lone African American Nursing Director of an Oklahoma State facility. Janet Colbert graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at the University of
Oklahoma Health Science Center. She worked for several years as a pediatric charge nurse at the children's hospital in Oklahoma City before becoming an assistant director and then eventually the director of nursing at Oklahoma Youth Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Janet Colbert followed those positions as a Facility Auditor of a healthcare organization, and a Quality Assurance and Improvement Manager for the Oklahoma Health Care authority.

She was a faithful member of Garden of Grace Church.

Janet Colbert is survived by her husband, Larry Colbert of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Clinton Smith and Raymond Smith, Jr.; one daughter, Denise Troutt of Oklahoma City; one goddaughter, Natasha Henderson Hernandez of Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Quantrell Colbert of Tyrone,
