A VIRTUOUS WOMAN
Webster Dictionary describes "Life" as the existence of an individual human being. On March 31, 1963, not only was a Life formed, but a Virtuous Woman was created in the form of a baby girl named Janice Lorraine Walker to the Late Vivian (Betty) Walker.

Faith- A Virtuous Woman serves God with all of her heart, mind and soul…..Proverbs 31:26

Faith is the substance of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen. Janice gave her life to Christ at an early age and her faith walk began at New Salem Baptist Church in Okmulgee, OK under the leadership of the late Rev. Melvin Wallace. She later moved to Tulsa, OK and her faith walk continued as she became a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in 1989 under the leadership of Pastor W. T. Lauderdale. Janice was a faithful member even in her failing health. She served on the Praise Team, Trustee Board, as a Youth Leader, an Usher, she also participated in the Sunday School, Bible Study, Feed the Homeless Ministry and various other ministries of the church. She definitely had a servant's heart. Matthew 22:37-39 also states, Jesus declared, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Janice lived this scripture every day of her life. You know, you really never know a persons story until its told and Janice Walker's story is still unfolding. There are many stories that have emerged through her death that proves this scripture to be true.

Industry- A Virtuous Woman works willingly with her hands…..Proverbs 31:13

Janice grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where she attended and graduated from Okmulgee High School Class of 1981. Upon completion of high school, she furthered her education at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma and Tulsa Business School. In 2005, Janice attend Harvest Time Ministry in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Janice was employed with Pain Management of Tulsa. During her tenure, she made lots of friends and memories. Janice was fortunate enough to have a group of co-workers that loved her just as much as she loved them.

Service- A Virtuous Woman serves her family, her friends and her neighbors…..Proverbs 31:12

Janice cared about everyone she came in contact with. If you needed anything, she would find it in her power to help you. Even in her illness, she never complained. She always kept her head held high and she being a private person, many never knew she was even sick. Through it all she trusted in Jesus and stood on His Word.

Beauty- A Virtuous Woman is a woman of worth and beauty…..Proverbs 31:10

Janice was a loving and kind sister, she helped people; she loved to laugh and had a smile that was very contagious. Janice also enjoyed life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Even through her sickness, she still saw the bright side of life. Janice, DIVA as most called her, was a Fashion Icon. Janice always matched from head to toe and Roslyn kept her hair whipped. Janice took pride in herself and it was evident. Janice was that "Phenomenal Woman" that Maya Angelo described in her poem. I say it was the reach of her arms, the span in her hips, the stride in her steps, the curl of her lips, Janice was a woman, Phenomenally, Phenomenal Woman she would say "that's me."

Mothering- A Virtuous Woman teaches her children the ways of the Father in Heaven… Proverbs 31:28

Janice L. Walker departed this life on June 11, 2016, in Tulsa, Oklahoma but before she took her last breath, Janice was doing what she has always done since August 27, 1966, when her baby sister, Rita was born and that was ensuring she would be "OK." A bond between sisters is a strong cord that nothing should be able to get through. Janice has looked out for, protected and made sure that Rita was always taken care of and never in need for anything. However, two years ago, it was now Rita's turn to protect, look out for and ensure Janice would be "OK." Before passing, she asked Rita if she would be okay and Rita's response was "Yes."

Janice leaves to cherish her memories a devoted, loving, unselfish sister-Rita Walker, two nephews- Joe Kennedy and Mark Burden, four Aunts- Ethel Walker, Hattie Mae Barnes, Mrytle Cooper and Debra Walker, one uncle, Robert (Olean) Walker, a sister/cousin- Jeanette Taylor, high school bestie's- Sharon Young, Tonya James, Donna Walker, Trisha McDade, childhood friend Terri Jones, a best friend- Lisa Rentie, Spiritual Father- K. Gerone Free, and a host of cousins and friends.

Rita would like to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts of concern, and phone calls. But she would like to say a special thank you to those who went above and beyond the call of duty and didn't have too: Dr. Vicki Baker, My Texas family- Bruce and Johnnie Patterson, Aunt Ethel " Tootsie" Walker, Terry Hughes, Roslyn Franklin, Lisa Rentie, Pain Management Crew- Aunt Debra Walker, Donna Walker, Luvenia Lewis, DD Barnes, Lois Harris, Mark Burden, Marquis Foster, and her church family,Gethsemane Baptist Church. Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you.
