Obituary

On the morning of Saturday, July 14th, with his wife and daughter by his side, the angel's whispered in Jerry's ear to end his pain and suffering and escort him to his eternal home.

Jerry was born July 18, 1949 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Cornelius and Flossie Redo. Jerry was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Manual Training High School where he began his sports career playing football and basketball. He attended Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship. During his sophomore year, Jerry's football career ended when he sustained a neck injury. Not willing to give up his love of sports, he became a member of the OSU basketball team and lettered in basketball.

Following graduation from OSU, he began his career working for Sears in the Management Training Program. He worked for Sears for fourteen years as Operations Manager. He continued his career as an Area Merchandise Manager for a major beer distributorship in Dallas and later as a Regional Operations Manager for a hotel chain.

In 1972, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Sherryl, while she was a student at OSU. Together they have one daughter, Kristel Redo Ward, two beautiful granddaughters, Angel and Sh'Elbie Ward and a wonderful son-in-law, Charles.

Jerry served his community on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Urban League and the Black Museum in Dallas. He also worked on the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce. He served as a member of the Concord Church in Dallas, Texas.

In 1968 he became a charter member of Zeta Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Oklahoma State University. He was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi and received his 50 year member jacket and pin in May 2018.

Jerry was passionate about giving back to the community which resulted in the formation of the Manual Training High School Alumni Scholarship fund in 2010. Over $16,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving African American college bound graduates from Muskogee High School.

Jerry's love for golf took him all over the country where he played on some of the best courses in the nation. He served on the committee with the PGA to start "First Tee" for young golfers. He served as the President of the Southwest Regional Golf Associations for eight years. Jerry participated in the East West Golf tournament in Phoenix Arizona for over 25 years which provided millions of dollars in minority scholarships for college bound golfers.

Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Noel, Maxine Straughter, and his brother, Cornelius (Sonny) Redo II. He leaves to behind his wife Sherryl Riley Redo, daughter Kristel Redo Ward (Charles Jr.), grand-daughters Angel and Sh'Elbie, brother Vernell Redo (Toni), and sister Semonia Jean Taylor, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends that seemed like family.
