It all began on April 25, 1929, when a baby girl was born to David Pierce and Ada Bell Springs in Fort Coffee, Oklahoma. she was the second born of four siblings and was named Jessie Bell.
At an impressionable age, Jessie Bell profess a hope in Christ and accepted him as her personal savior. She joined Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member untel her health began to fail her. She attended school in Boynton, Oklahoma and later established her home in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Jessie Bell met a gentleman, Leon Chatman and after falling in love, they were married on October 30, 1943 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Bobby Lee Chatman and Elrena R. Chatman-Reed.
During her lifetime, she helped to provide for her family through her employment by the Stolpher famiily for over 50 years.
In her 86th Season of Life, Jessie Bell Chatman closed her eyes on earth, but woke up in GLory on Sunday, January 10, 2016. She was preceded in death by David Pierce, Ada Bell Springs and a special grandson, Pico Leontay Reed.
She leaves to lament her passing; her children, Bobby Lee Chatman and Elrena R. Reed; and a caravan of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a special daughter, Brandy Ledbetter, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Hour of Remembrance for Mrs. Chatman will commence on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the most Holy sanctuary of the Canaan Baptist Church, 2331 Euclid in Muskogee. The Pastor, Reverend Wallace Brown, will officiate.
Burial will follow the service in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
