Obituary

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the resilient spirit of Jessie Mae Davenport-McDonald took flight from Hillcrest (Main) Hospital after a short illness at the age of 71, just days before her birthday.

Jessie Mae Davenport-McDonald was born July 20, 1952, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Jessie Cowans and Erma Jean Cowans. She was a student of the historic Dunbar High School. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church later in life, however, her heart was always with Macedonia Baptist Church; this was home to her.

On any day, she was willing and eager to go shopping. She also enjoyed cooking and spending quality time with her son, Tarance. Born and raised in Okmulgee, Jessie experienced more hardship and adversity in her young life than most could fathom. Despite the challenges she faced, Jessie remained steadfast in her determination to rise above her circumstances and make a better life for her and her son.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Freddie McDonald in Arkansas. Jessie was a remarkable mother and woman whose presence illuminated
the lives of all those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. Jessie, a proud black female, defied some odds and overcame countless obstacles throughout her life, leaving an indelible mark on the world around her. Working as a CNA in Home Health Services, she infused this field with her personal touch, she was a beacon of light and warmth in the community she dearly loved. Her warm smile and generous spirit touched the hearts of everyone she encountered, leaving a lasting impression that transcended race, gender, and social status. She was a shining example of strength, compassion, and the respectful homage of a life well-lived. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; sister, Brenda Powdrill; and two grandchildren, Precious Huddleston and Kenneth Huddleston.

As we mourn the loss of Jessie Mae Davenport-McDonald, let us also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind. Jessie's impact extended far
beyond this community. Moreover, she leaves to mourn a blessing from God: her one and only son, Tarance J. Huddleston, Sr.; one sister,
Joann James; grandchildren, Stevie Perry, Tarance J. Huddleston, Jr., and Terraka J. Huddleston; great-grandchildren, Kingston Allen and
Savon Stallings; nieces and nephews, Kelli Kelley, Carla (Steve) Jones, LaDonna Sims, Keith Gardner, Sr., and Timothy Sims; special brother/
cousin, George Grayson; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.

The Sacred Farewell for Jessie will commence on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Tenth Hour in the most holy sanctuary of Macedonia Baptist Church in Okmulgee, where Pastor Judson Fields will preside.

The Christian Committal will immediately follow the services in the Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee.
