Obituary

Mr. Jessie Lee Mitchell, after 101 years on Earth, went to Heaven on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from Tulsa, Oklahoma with his loved ones near his side.

Jessie L. Mitchell was born on August 15, 1915 to Zack and Parthina M. [Miller] Mitchell in Weimar, Texas.  Jessie later moved to Okmulgee, where he met his love, Lela C. Paxton and from that union, one child was born.  He worked in construction for many years and was drafted into the United States Navy.  After serving his country, he was honorably discharge and returned to the construction field to provide for his family.

"Papa" as he was affectionately referred to, "HOPED" everyone as he always said.  Papa was affectionate, generous and made sure his family was taken care of.  He never allowed the fact that he was blind be an obstacle.  He mastered many things around the house as he and his grandson, Barry, added an addition onto their family home.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was delighted when they won the World Series in October 2016.

Jessie was a faithful member of 3rd and Commanche Church of Christ until his health began to fail.

On July 15, 2016, he was honored at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma for turning 100 years of age.

Waiting witha smile at Heaven's gate was his wife, Lela and his son, Jimmy.  We can imagine the conversation was "Jim, lok it's Jess!", as she affectionatley called him.

He leaves to cherish his memory;  his daughter-in-law, Lois Mitchell, of Okmulgee;  his grandchildren, Barry Lyons [Janet], Tulsa, Tracy Keim [Jonathan] of Okmulgee, Jimmy L. Mitchell, Jr., of Okmuglee, Andrea Alexander [Michael] of Tulsa, JaQuita Jordan of Edmond, Oklahoma and Milton Jordan of Springfield, Missouri;  his great-grandchildren, Lakesha Lyons, Jimmy L. Mitchell, III, Stephon Motte, Caleb Mitchell, Kaitlyn Mitchell, Sierra Motte, Taran Mitchell, Kennedy Lyons, Gabby Mitchell, saraia Motte and Layia Keim;  one great-great-grandson, Taurino [TJ] Medina;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The final salute to Mr. Mitchell will commence on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Grand Avenue Church of Christ.  Brother Percy West will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Northwest Cemetery in Okmulgee.
