Canton Jewel "JC" Keyes was born in Muskogee, OK on April 1, 1940 to Anna Mae and Gratus L. Keyes, Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. He attended school in Muskogee, graduating from Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1958.
Mr. Keys served his Country honorably in the U. S. Air Force from 1958 until his retirement in 1981. His proud service was rewarded with several honors and medals, as well as rank
He met and married Carrie Dickens, however this marriage was later dissolved. Although he was never a biological father, he was a "Dad" to all of his nieces and nephews.
Affectionately referred to as "Honey" by family and friends, he loved spending time with his family, always telling jokes with a fun-loving personality. He loved photography, playing cards and dominoes and was a laid back man with a great sense of humor.
Mr. Jewel Cannon Keys, after 72 years, surrendered his soul on Friday, April 13, 2012 from Aurora, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, along with all his aunts and uncles.
Remaining to lament his death; his siblings: Gratus Keyes, Aurora, Colorado, Donald (Kay) Jones, and Bobbie Boyattia of Muskogee; A very special nephew, Canton "Lil Honey" (Heather) Keyes, of Aurora, Colorado; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, the remaining Class of 1958 and other friends who will truly miss his carefree smile.
The Sacred Farewell to Mr. Keys will be on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. Mark Baptist Church. Rev. Rodger Cutler, Pastor will Preside. The Final Salute will be rendered on Monday morning, April 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. You may visit Mr. Keys, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Friday from 12 Noon until 6 PM.
