Jewell Earlene (Penney) Peters was born on November 29, 1951 to Henry Penney and Kathryn Banks in Tulsa, OK. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1970, from the University of Oklahoma in 1974 with a BS in Sociology and a Master's in Public Administration in 1975. Jewell was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Jewell was married to the love of her life, her husband Anthony (Tony) Peters for 41 years.
Jewell is survived by her husband, Tony, four children, Kim Peters of St. Petersburg, FL, Tiffany Peters of Oklahoma City, OK, Anthony (Breezy) Peters, Jr., and Justin Peters, two sisters, Mercedes Thompson of Tulsa and Kathy Penney of Jacksonville, FL, three brothers, Henry (Sunday) Penney, Taylor Banks and Essic Banks of Tulsa, OK, four grandchildren, Alexia Peters and Pertrille Peters, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, Devin Peters of Oklahoma City, OK, Anthony Peters III of Dallas, TX and the rest of her family and friends.
After leaving OU, Jewell was a buyer for John A. Brown and operated her own daycare center in the Norman, OK. Jewell and Tony moved to Northern Virginia where Jewell started a long, successful career at C&P Telephone Company (Bell Atlantic) and later SBC Communications (AT&T) where she retired after 20 years of service. While in Virginia she obtained a real estate license and sold real estate part time. She enjoyed spending time with her family, making jewelry, and shopping.
Jewell accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and recommitted her faith by being baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit on 10 June 2003 at her church, West Side Church of Christ in Muskogee, OK.
She was a devoted wife, mother, "Becky", sister, friend, and aunt. Jewell will forever be remembered for her compassion, gentle spirit, style, grace and smile.
