The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.."
JoAnn Marie Hinex, was born to Joseph and Ethel Mae Hinex on September 24, 1937 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She graduated from Pleasant Grove Senior High School in May 1957.
JoAnn was affectionately called by the name "Sweetheart" by the late Thomas James Samilton, Sr. She was also affectionately known as Mother Dear or Dear by her grandchildren. After JoAnn graduated high school, she and James married June 25th,1957. To this union were born 4 children. Rechinda, Cynthia, Thomas Jr. and Anthony. She retired from Lloyds General Insurance, where she was an Underwriter. In her younger years, JoAnn along with two of her sisters (Opal Johnson, deceased and Wilma Neal) would travel to other churches and participate in musicals. JoAnn also played the piano and provided lessons to those who wanted to learn.
In 1964 Thomas and JoAnn and family joined Antioch. JoAnn served faithfully at Antioch Baptist Church. She was at one time a Children's Sunday School Teacher and directed the Children's Sunbeam Choirs. JoAnn also directed and sang in what was known as the Sanctuary Choir – Voices of Triumph, and the Senior Adult Choir.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Rechinda Samilton, Cynthia Samilton, Dallas, Tx., sons Thomas J. Samilton, Jr., (Shantale), Anthony Samilton (Lisa), sister Wilma Neal, Anchorage, AK., brother-in-law Edward Samilton (Willene), and a host of grand-children, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves to cherish her memory the members of Antioch Baptist Church where she is a member and Vision of Faith Church where she was an honorary member. She was preceded in her transition by her husband Thomas James Samilton, Sr., her parents and 10 siblings.
Mrs. JoAnn Samilton, in her 86th Season Transitioned to Eternal Rest on December 31, 2023 in Tulsa.
The Celebratory Service will commence on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at the Eleventh Hour in the most holy sanctuary of Antioch Baptist Church in Tulsa.
You may visit Mrs. Samilton, as she slumbers in peaceful repose in The All Faiths Chapel of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Tulsa, on Friday, January 12, 2024, between the hours of 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
The Christian Committal will immediately follow the services in the Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
