On a calm, summer day, July 29, 1937, in the small community of Cathy, Oklahoma, Charley and Carrie [Spencer] Shine, Jr., welcomed a new addition to their family. The chosen name for this son was Joedy R. Shine. Four brothers and three sisters rejoiced at his birth and a strong family bond emerged.
The family later moved to Oktaha, Oklahoma and Joedy attended school at Rentiesville. He attended church regularly and worked very hard alongside his family everyday, tending to animals and working the fields. His love for horses grew stronger and he always shad at least one grazing in some field somewhere. You might say he was a "Cowboy Wannabe". We say that because who in their right mind wore dress shoes to ride horses. His one horse was trained so well that when Joedy couldn't navigate, the horse brought him home.
While living in Oktaha, he met and soon married Barbara "Froug" Baker in May of 1956. The Baker and Logan families remain friends to this day. A daughter, Annette, affectionately called "Nuch" joined this union followed by six more later.
Later, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Joedy worked two jobs, Global Construction and also Boeing Airlines to support his family. Often, after only a few hours of sleep, that didn't take away time with his family or making friends. After his marriage ended, he moved back to Muskogee to be closer to his family, but continued to stay in contact with his children, especially his oldest "Nuch", where not a day or week went by that those two didn't talk or argue about taking care of themselves.
Being a hard worker, he soon went to work at Muskogee General Hospital and also for the Railroad until an injury led to retirement.
Later in life, Joedy began searching for a Church home, and after visiting several churches, he met a young lady, Minnie Youngblood, followed by a courtship which led to a blossoming love which developed into Holy Matrimony in 2004. Minnie brought with her, two sons and two daughters.
However, Joedy still desired more spiritually, so his search continued until the spirit led him to Divine Love Fellowship. The fire was lit, Bible came out and Holy Spirit took over. His faith, service and devotion led him to become an Ordained Deacon of the Church. He traveled with the Pastor hundreds of miles, spreading the Word. He was always dressed and ready.
Deacon Shine's health began to worsen, but he never complained and always thought more of others than himself. He readied himself for his departure. He was a soldier in the Army of the Lord. Minnie got a brand new car, he visited family, walked one of the local walking trails and attended Church the Sunday before his home-going.
On Thursday, August 30, 2012, he traveled to the Army Base [St. Francis Hospital] in Tulsa, presented his honorable discharge papers [Doctors], but decided before going home, he needed a vacation, so he called for a taxi [Hearse] instead of having Minnie or other family to pick him up, he went to the airport, bought a ticket, handed it to the man at the plane's door [Keith Biglow], who made sure he was dressed and comfortable for the flight. After the plane took off, he soared and landed in a location he had always dreamed of. He stepped off the plane and was met by the Mayor [God] with the keys to the city [Heaven] and the assurance of Eternal Life.
Those that have made the flight before him were at the terminal to meet him; his parents, a brother, Cecil, his sisters, Cloteal and Helen and a step-son, James.
Those that wait; his wife, Minnie; his children, Annette "Nuck" Shine and Dale Braziel, Brenda "Cherry" and Reginald McCraw, Tonya and Thomas Walker, Addis "Ricky" and Daniel Pouncil, Judy "Pebbles" Shine, Charels "Peter" Shine, Lester "Bam" Shine, Helen Brown, Elroy Youngblood and Jackie Youngblood; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brothers, Herman Shine, Oklahoma City, Ira Lee Shine, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Truman Shine, Elliott and DeRonda Shine, Muskogee, and Charley and Margaret Shine, III, Omaha, Nebraska; his sister, Rosa Lee Derrick, Muskogee; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Shine, Muskogee; a brother-in-law, Jasper "Dead Eye" Bell; along with a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, as well as the Divine Love Fellowship family, who will forever cherish his memory.
