Obituary

On the 28th day of March, in the year of our Lord, 1937, there was reason to celebrate in East Texas! Noble Crosby, Sr., and Suvelier Houston welcomed their second child in Longview, a bouncing, baby boy and they named him John Henry Crosby.


In 1940, along with his brother, Noble Crosby, Jr.,, the family moved to Oklahoma City. Shortly thereafter, his mother became ill and was moved back to Longview, and after her death, he was then raised by his grandmother, Dullie Dillard Houston.


Realizing the importance of a relationship with Christ, John was baptized at Evening Chapel Church of Christ in Longview, Texas under the leadership of Brother J. O. Williams.


John attended Womack High School, where he sang in the choir and worked in the dietician department. He simply loved to cook. He graduated from school with the Class of 1954. He furthered his education at Texas Southern University, Pharmacy School from 1955 thru 1959, and then served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1959 until 1961.


He met a beautiful young lady, Gayle Kathleen Lorance, and after falling in love, they were united in Holy Matrimony on August 19, 1969. Their love was blessed with three children; Yolanda, Rhonda and John Galen.


Mr. Crosby excelled in practicing pharmacy. He enjoyed his labor in the community and also built and operated several business in his community. He worked as a pharmacist for over 50 years in many different areas, including independent, clinic, retail and hospital pharmacy departments. He retired from Brooke Army Hospital in 2008. His dedication to his field of expertise was evident from recognition by his peers. On October 30, 2010, during the 61st Annual Homecoming in Houston, Texas, John H. Crosby was one of 3 pharmacists honored by Texas Southern University Pharmacy and Health Sciences Alumni Association for 51 years of service in the field of pharmacy. He loved reading, visiting with family and spending time with his 5 grandsons


In his 73rd year, John Henry Crosby surrendered his soul on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, along with his son-in-law, Dr. Robert J. Johnson.


He leaves to lament his passing; his children, Yolanda R. Mikaele [Teike], Rhonda L. Johnson and John G. Crosby [Angela]; five grandsons, John Isaiah Crosby, Haben Mikaele, Robbie J. Johnson, Sennai M. Mikaele and Ryan M. Johnson; along with other relatives and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the most sacred sanctuary of the Sheridan Road Church of Christ. Brother Tim Luster will officiate. The Christian committal will follow in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens at Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
