John Thomas Hairston II was born on January 28, 1960, in Manhattan, New York, to John Thomas Hairston and Mary
Eleanor Hammond. He passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. He was raised in Brooklyn and Mount Vernon, NY. He graduated from Harlem Preparatory High and studied Sociology at Rose State College and Science in Public Service at Oklahoma State University.
John was a sharing and caring soul who always worked in service to assist others. He worked mostly in customer service over the years at a variety of companies in leadership positions, including at American Airlines and Met Life, but most recently at the Community Action Agency of OKC.
He was always ready to lend a helping hand, encouraging words, or a listening ear. He was considered to be an advice guru for many and a beloved friend and confidant to others. His love of cooking provided many a good meal for friends and family as well as the local Food Pantry and Salvation Army. He used his love of music as a language, communicating with songs or videos to invoke memories and emotions or by his voice as did his mother, singing hymns and spirituals.
Mr. John Thomas Hairston, II, after 61 years, let this life on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Those left behind include: his father John Thomas Hairston, Sr.; siblings, Mary Kathryn Lee (Oram) and Duane Elliott Hairstonand wife, Jennifer; Charta', Divine, Tiffany, Aviyonna, aka Lil Moochie, because he was Big Moochie, Luke; Nieces, Pourchea Nicole Cunningham, Deidre Denise Culver, Charta' Hairston, Devine Hairston, Oram Andrew Lee, Bobby Gregory Lee, and Curtis Lee; Goddaughter, Lakeysha Beazer; aunts, Jean Hairston, Dorothy Daniels, Hazel Briggs, and Marion; uncle, Robert Catoe; grandneices, Naomi and Talia Culver, Giulliana, Naomi, and Destiny Lee, Lily Poplin; Grandnephew, Lukas Poplin; and a host of cousins and in-laws
A Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Floyd Center located at 6900 NW 41st Street in Bethany, Oklahoma.
You may visit Mr. Hairston, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc-Tulsa on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 between the hours of 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
