On a beautiful day on June 12, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a handsome baby boy was born to Jimmie, Sr. and Leona Isom, the second of seven children born to the union. They named him Johnnie Lee. Johnnie attended Dunbar Elementary, Carver Junior High, and graduated with the class of 1963 at Booker T. Washington High School. He was on the wrestling team with two of his brothers, Jimmie and Glen. He served in the military for two years from 1968 to 1970. He attended barber college and made it a family affair of styling and cutting hair from the early 70s to the late 80s, to the 90s, until he laid his clippers down. He used to always say "my hand ain't shaky yet!"
He served on the usher board faithfully, which he enjoyed greatly at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, which is the church he grew up in. He enjoyed going out to eat, and later complained about eating too much. His favorite football team was the Indianapolis Colts. He liked the color blue, and enjoyed watching reruns of Bonanza. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers and sisters and the entire family during all sorts of events and special occasions.
Johnnie took his last breath of life on Tuesday April 16, 2013, where he is now resting peacefully until the trumpet sounds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie, Sr., and Leona Isom, his four brothers: Jackie, Donald Ray, Glen, and Jimmie, one sister, Brenda Carter, one cousin, Rachel Carter, one granddaughter, Shiree Moore. He leaves to cherish his beautiful memroies: four children: Anita Carter (Dannie), Las Vegas, NV, Brenda Mason (Allen) Las Vegas, NV., Donika Williams (Karim), Philadelphia, PA., JoJuan Lee, Tulsa, OK., one precious sister, Marcia Isom Hankins, Dallas, TX., aunts: Catherine Watkins, Tulsa, OK., Carolyn Saulsby, Los Angeles, CA., grandchildren: Shirelle (Anita), Joshua and Kayla (Brenda), Kadyn, Kynnedy, and Kasia (Nika), a longtime friend, Albert Nash, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
