Josephine was born November 8, 1939, in Pumpkin Center, Oklahoma from the union of Glassie Mae Stokely and Lewis Smith.
At an impressionable age, Josephine confessed her hope and belief in Jesus Christ. She and her family became active members of Antioch Baptist Church of Pumpkin Center, Oklahoma and as a young adult, she served at New Salem Baptist Church in Okmulgee and later, serving at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma .
She was employed at Westside cafe, Okmulgee Head start, Okmulgee Youth Shelter, and at George Nigh Rehabilitation center, Okmulgee until her retirement. Josephine was a loving Mother to her children: Sharon Clement-Harris, Robert Donnell Clement, Michael Dwayne Clement and Angelita Cheryl Clement.
Josephine loved people and never met anyone that she didn't try to help in some way if there was a need. She taught everyone to perform with excellence in every field. In 2000, Josephine suffered from several conditions that contributed to her failing health. Through it all, failing health, the loss of two children, Sharon Clement-Harris & Michael Dwayne Clement.
Josephine never gave up her belief in God. On Thursday, April 24, 2014, In her 75
th
year, God saw fit to call one of his "laborers in the Garden" to rest and to obtain her just reward.
She leaves in God's care; her children, Robert Donnell Clement and Angelita Cheryl Clement; her siblings, Ruby Mae Lafayette and Mary Ann Gahagans, both of Tulsa and Theodore Roosevelt Clement, Cordova, Tennessee; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Services for Ms. Clement will be on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the New Salem Baptist Church in Okmulgee.
Friends may visit her in Okmulgee on Friday from 10AM until 6PM at the funeral home. Floral arrangements will be accepted during this time.
