IN LOVING MEMORY
Joshua John Guy Ravenell
June 13, 1991 – December 2, 2023
Joshua John Guy Ravenell was born June 13, 1991, in the Bronx, New York to James Lamont Ravenell, Sr. and Joy Victoria Lee. Josh described his life as a series of arrivals and departures. When Josh arrived in the family, he immediately added such humor. He was flat out hilarious! As a kid, Josh would walk around with a bible as big as he was. Everyone thought he would become a pastor. He loved attending Sunday service, and he didn't like being late. On the Sundays when the family was running late to church, Josh would run ahead of them in the direction of the church yelling, "We're on our way Jesus!!"
Josh's journey into the world of travel began with a class trip to Utah in 5th grade with KIPP Academy in NY, making that the start of a lifelong passion. The family moved to Tulsa in 2003 and he graduated from Union High School in 2009.
A lover of music, Josh played the viola professionally and was hired to play for Asbury Methodist Church and Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
He began private flight lessons as a teenager and majored in aviation at the University of Oklahoma. Despite initially aspiring to be a pilot, he embraced the skies as a flight attendant first with GoJet then with Spirit Airlines, and later transitioning to American Airlines in 2013 with a move to Dallas, Texas.
With his larger-than-life personality, it wasn't a surprise that Josh would also make his mark at American Airlines where he served for two years in an appointed position with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants as a Base Council Representative. In that role, Josh was a pillar of support for Flight Attendants coping with traumatic life events, ensuring they had the necessary resources to protect their employment while focusing on their mental health. His advocacy against the exploitation of workers by major corporations highlighted his deep understanding of the challenges faced by his peers.
Whether soaring through the clouds or cruising at sea, Josh embodied a lifestyle that reflected his vibrant energy and light. His compassion and empathy for humanity, coupled with a big, pure heart, endeared him to everyone he met. Josh's infectious smile and big eyes illuminated every room he entered. Always impeccably dressed, he cherished the finer things in life, exuding style and class in all he did. As he departs, Josh leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a spirit that transcends boundaries.
